Sponsors unite and urge FIFA President Blatter to quit

The FIFA President Sepp Blatter says he won't resign, even though FIFA's major sponsors including Coca Cola, McDonalds and Visa are now calling on him to go.


The companies says that with a criminal probe hanging over Mr. Blatter, he must leave office for the good of the sport.

Coca Cola demands immediate resignation of FIFA President Sepp Blatter

Coca Cola, one of world soccer's most influential sponsors, is calling on Sepp Blatter to resign immediately as FIFA's President.


In a statement issued from its Atlanta headquarters, the company says FIFA needs "comprehensive and urgent reform".

US, European and Gulf States Publish Declaration Against Russian Actions in Syria

The governments of several European and Gulf nations and the United States have signed a joint declaration opposing Russia's military actions in Syria.

The nations are opposed to Russia's policy of supporting the government of Bashar Al Assad in the country's complex civil war.

Investigators Look for Motive in Community College Shooting

Investigators are looking for a motive for the mass shooting at Umpqua Community College in southern Oregon. 

The local sheriff has taken the unusual step of refusing to publicly identify the shooter but other law enforcement sources have identified him.

Hurricane Joaquin pounds Bahamas, likely won’t hit US

Vatican: Pope Wasn’t Endorsing Kentucky Gay Marriage Protester

The Vatican has said that Pope Francis' meeting with an American woman who refused to grant marriage licenses to same-sex couples in Kentucky did not amount to an endorsement of her views.

US jobs data misses estimates

Employment in the United States has slowed for a second straight month
with labor force participation falling to its lowest level since
October 1977.

And with the Federal Reserve watching jobs data closely this could
have a baring on their decision on when to raise interest rates in the
US.

Sydney shooting - two dead

Police are still trying to determine the identity of two men killed near
police headquarters in Parramatta in Sydney's west.
A witness to the double shooting says a man was yelling and wielding a
gun moments before he heard shots and saw a man lying on the ground.
Another person who lives opposite the Police headquarters, Vijay Dantou
told Australia's ABC he heard several shots.

Germany mulls stricter asylum laws

President Obama is again calling on Congress to pass gun control laws after another mass shooting in America.  Ten people including the gunman were killed and seven more injured after suspected shooter Chris Harper Mercer opened fire at Umpqua Community College in Oregon.

10 dead on Oregon shooting - officials refuse to name gunman

Officials in Oregon are refusing to name the suspected shooter who massacred students at Umpqua [[ UMP-kwuh ]] Community College.
However, multiple media sources have identified him as 26-year-old Chris Harper Mercer.  Ten people including the gunman were killed and seven injured.
