SYRIA TO DOMINATE DISCUSSIONS AT UNGA

Russia is leading calls for a co-ordinated response against the Islamic State in Syria, as world leaders gather in New York for the UN General Assembly.

The UK has called for new diplomatic efforts on Syria, and has shifted position to suggest President Assad could be allowed to play a part in a transitional government.

Henry Hogger is a former British ambassador to Syria - he says the messages are becoming confusing.
