MIGRANT FLOWS THROUGH EUROPE CONTINUE

Four Eastern European countries are holding talks on the refugee crisis as thousands of asylum seekers continued arriving in Austria and Germany over the weekend.

The group has so far opposed an EU proposal to resettle refugees using mandatory quotas, while Germany and France are calling for more solidarity.

At least 13 migrants died at the weekend when their dinghy collided with a ferry of Turkey, en route to the Greek island of Lesbos.

Kate O'Sullivan of Save the Children is on Lesbos, and she says the flow of refugees shows no sign of slowing.

UK TO GUARANTEE POWER DEAL FOR CHINA AND FRANCE

The UK says it will guarantee a $3.1bn deal for China to invest in Britain's first new nuclear power plant for two decades.

The move is designed to also encourage French energy firm EDF to make a final decision on investing in the project.

It's hoped the Hinkley Point nuclear power station will provide 7% of Britain's electricity from 2023 onwards.

Laith Khalaf from stockbroker Hargreaves Lansdown says the UK hopes its guarantee will lead to a series of collaborations with China.

Kerry: US to accept 100,000 refugees in 2017

The US has announced plans to accept 100 thousand refugees in the year 2017 - that's 30 thousand more than its current limit.

Secretary of State John Kerry disclosed the decision during a visit to Berlin.

So far, the US has only accepted 15 hundred Syrian refugees, and the White House says that number could increase at least to 10 thousand next year.

But our Washington correspondent Simon Marks says Mr. Kerry's announcement does not automatically mean a dramatic rise in the number of Syrians heading to the US.

Cautious Wall St. Trading Likely After Fed Decision

As the excitement over the US Federal Reserve’s decision not to raise interest rates last week recedes, Wall St. investors are looking out for the next big catalyst that will determine the fate of financial assets. The Fed’s fear over global instability and lack of inflation growth at home had an immediate negative effect on markets, a trend likely to continue unless positive data calms investors nerves.
