Serena Williams loses in US Open semis, ends bid for historic Grand Slam

Serena Williams has been knocked out of the US Open, ending her
historic bid for a Grand Slam victory.

Williams lost to unseeded Italian player Roberta Vinci in Friday's
women's semifinal game.

Congressional votes complicate Iran deal debate

Opponents of the Iran deal in the U.S. Congress are using every legislative tool possible to undermine the approval of the agreement.

Norther Ireland Political Crisis Deepens

Northern Ireland's power-sharing government has plunged into political crisis after its First Minister, Peter Robinson, stepped down.


His resignation came after he failed to receive backing to suspend Norther Ireland's assembly over allegations the IRA were still active and  involved in the murder of a former IRA member.


Cross-Party talks are expected to take place next week to try to resolve the political situation as our UK Correspondent Natalie Powell reports

Central European nations hold Prague talks about refugee quotas

Foreign Ministers of Hungary, Poland, Slovakia and The Czech Republic are meeting in Prague to discuss an EU proposal for mandatory quotas to distribute thousands of refugees arrivals to Europe.

The four central European countries have all rejected the scheme but are being urged to reach compromise ahead of an EU emergency meeting of interior insisters in Brussels next week.

Russia's building big military base near Ukrainian border

UK officials are holding talks to discuss how to take in 20 000 Syrian refugees over the next five years.

Home Secretary Theresa May is meeting with local authorities and agencies after the government promised to take in more refugees from UN camps on Syria's borders.

UN to investigate who’s responsible for chemicals weapon use in Syria

The United Nations has agreed to open an investigation designed to
apportion blame for chemical weapons attacks in Syria.
