UN to let Palestinian flag fly as non-member observer state

The State of Palestine has received United Nations approval to raise its flag as a non-member observer state at UN headquarters in New York.

The UN General Assembly approved the measure by a simple majority vote, despite objections from Israel and the United States.

The United States will take up to ten thousand Syrian refugees as the migrant crisis continues to dominate world headlines.

UN to investigate who’s responsible for chemicals weapon use in Syria

The United Nations has agreed to open an investigation designed to
apportion blame for chemical weapons attacks in Syria.

A previous UN report states that deadly sarin gas has been used in the
country but until now they did not have a mandate to look into who was
responsible.

Greece must stick to bailout agreed no matter what the result of the election, says EU

The EU insists any new Greek government will remain tied to the country's bailout plan agreed in August regardless of election results.

New research indicates the possibility that Alzheimer's could be transmitted

APPLE UNVEILS NEW IPHONES, IPAD

Apple has unveiled new upgrades to its iPhone range at an event in San Francisco, as well as attempts to reinvigorate iPad sales.

The new iPhones boast so-called 3D touch, which will see the screen respond differently depending on how hard it is pressed.

Apple also hopes its new iPad Pro tablet with a larger screen and the option for a stylus and attachable keyboard will see it compete with portable laptops.

Danny Cox from stockbroker Hargreaves Lansdown says investors have been particularly keen to see how Apple would improve the iPad range which has seen falling sales.

UK LABOUR PARTY LEADERSHIP VOTING ENDS

Voting is closing (11GMT Thursday) in a UK Labour Party leadership contest which could see the most left-wing leader elected in decades.

Leftist candidate Jeremy Corbyn could be set to lead opposition Labour after a campaign which has been plagued by claims of infiltrators joining the party to sabotage it by voting for him.

But Labour's ranks have also been swelled by hundreds of thousands since it resoundingly lost May's election to David Cameron's Conservatives.

The winner of the contest will be announced on Saturday.

UN reports child mortality down 50% from 1990, but misses targets

Child mortality rates have dropped 50% from 1990 figures, according to
a report released on Wednesday by UNICEF- the United Nations
Children's Fund.

But that still doesn't meet the UN's target to achieve a two-thirds
