UK LABOUR LEADERSHIP PROCESS QUESTIONS REMAIN

Britain's Labour Party is making legal checks on a leadership process being questioned over its fairness, and threatening to split the party.

Some Labour members fear infiltrators are joining the party to vote for leftist candidate Jeremy Corbyn in a bid to scupper its electoral chances nationally.

Left-winger Mr Corbyn leads the leadership contest according to polls.

Labour's new leader will be announced on September 12th - over four months after a resounding defeat in Britain's general election.

Leadership candidate Yvette Cooper says a vote for Jeremy Corbyn is a vote for a protest party rather than a party of government.
