'Body-camera cop' pleads not guilty in fatal motorist shooting

AP Investigation determines Brazil's water is highly contaminated


An associated press investigation has found the water quality in a number of Brazilian areas contains dangerous levels of viruses and bacteria.

The results of the study have exposed the dangers that athletes competing in next year's Summer Olympics will be face by swimming and boating in the contaminated waters.

US releases alleged Chinese corporate spy on bail

American authorities have released on bail, a Chinese professor who had been charged with economic espionage.


US economy grows in 2nd quarter

The US economy grew at an improved rate during the April to June period, rising by 2.3%.

The government also raised figures to show the economy grew rather than shrank during the first three months of the year.

Obama Orders Development of New Supercomputer

Key barrister in Litvinenko inquiry says Moscow was likely to have been the state sponsor in spy's death


An inquiry into the 2006 death of former KGB spy Alexander Litvinenko in London has heard how Russia is likely to have been the state sponsor to the plot to poison and kill him. 

Richard Horwell QC, a barrister for London's Metropolitan Police said Moscow had many reasons for wanting Mr Litvinenko dead.  He added it would never been known what the risk the public had been exposed to with the use of radioactive polonium 210.  From London, Catherine Drew reports.

Ohio campus police officer in court over fatal shooting of African-American

Ex University of Cincinnati police officer Ray Tensing is being arraigned on murder charges related to the shooting death of Samuel DuBose- an African American who was pulled over for driving without a front license plate.

Ray Tensing claims he was forced to shoot the victim, because he feared for his life, but body camera pictures tell a different story.

The case comes amid months of national scruting of the treatment of African Americans at the hands of police.

Ukrainian pilot Savchenko in court for pre-trial hearing

Anti-Semitism on the increase in the UK

Anti-semitism is on the increase in the UK, according to a new report by charity, The Community Security Trust.


There has been a 50% increase in incidents from January to June compared with the same period last year, though the charity believes one of the main explanations for the rise was a greater willingness to report hate-crimes.

Oil giant shell to cut 6500 jobs

Royal Dutch Shell says it's cutting six and a half thousand jobs to combat a drop in oil prices.

The company made the announcement after posting a 35 percent drop in profits in June, compared to last year.

Russia vetoes UN resolution for MH17 criminal tribunal

Russia veto UN resolution on downed MH17 plane

A United Nations plan to set up an ad hoc tribunal designed to punish
those responsible for the downing of flight MH17 has been blocked by
the UN Security Council.

298 people were on board the Malaysian Airlines flight that crashed
whilst flying over Ukraine in July last year killing all those
onboard.

Russia used their power of a veto to block the move citing that while
the MH17 disaster was a criminal act- it's not within the orbit of
international peace and security.

Cincinnati police officer charged with murder

A white police officer who shot and killed an African-American man during a traffic stop in Cincinnati, Ohio will be charged with murder.

The prosecutor announced the charges saying "this was the purposeful killing of another person" and the "most asinine act I have ever seen a police officer make."
