US Supreme Court upholds lethal injection

The U.S. Supreme Court ruled 5-4 in favor of lethal injection as a method of carrying out the death penalty despite the problems American states are having in obtaining certain drugs for the lethal drug cocktail.

Court watchers are noting that the dissent is nearly as important as the majority opinion, with Justice Breyer writing that he thinks it is highly likely that the death penalty violates the the eighth amendement to the U.S. Constitution, banned cruel and unusual punishment.

Danielle Fulfs of the Washington State Campaign to end the Death Penalty say, the biggest problem is that the death penalty is imposed in an arbitrary way in the U.S.
