2026 WORLD CUP BIDDING SUSPENDED

FIFA says it has suspended the bidding process for the 2026 World Cup.

The decision comes amid a corruption scandal engulfing international football's governing body.

FIFA President Sepp Blatter is to step down over the crisis - and it's reported a vote will be held in December to replace him.

Meanwhile FIFA Secretary General Jerome Valcke says plans for Russia to host the 2018 World Cup are on track - despite the process to award it to Russia and 2022's tournament to Qatar being investigated over corruption allegations.

Speaking in Russia, Mr Valcke has also denied any wrongdoing over a $10m payment to disgraced former FIFA official Jack Warner related to the South Africa World Cup in 2010.

He insists any questions over that payment should be for South Africa and its former president Thabo Mbeki.
