Obama limiting supply of military-grade equipment to local police

US President Barack Obama is banning the U.S. government from providing some military-grade equipment to local police departments, in a bid to improve community relations.

The White House wants tighter controls on some weapons as well, that have been so far been distributed to law enforcement agencies.

Moscow denies troops in Ukraine again after Kyiv says Russian soldiers captured

The Kremlin has repeated its denial that there are any Russian troops in eastern Ukraine.


The statement comes after Kyiv said its forces had captured two Russian soldiers near the front line between Russian backed militants and Ukrainian forces.

It's the first official day of parliament since Prime Minister David Cameron's Conservative Party won the UK General elections.

RAMADI IN ISLAMIC STATE HANDS AS SHIA MILITIA SENT TO CITY

Iraq's government has reportedly sent Iran-backed Shia militias to attempt to recapture the city of Ramadi from the Islamic State.

Ramadi was seized by militants at the weekend after Iraqi forces fled their positions.

The city is the capital of Anbar province and only 110km west of Baghad.

US Secretary of State John Kerry says he is 'convinced' Ramadi will be recaptured.

But terrorism expert Natasha Underhill says it's an important moment in the struggle against IS.

Mission to destroy migrants traffickers boats set to be approved by EU ministers

European Union foreign and defense ministers meeting in Brussels are set to approve a plan to use military force to destroy migrants traffickers boats in the Mediterranean sea.

The controversial proposal is part of a wider EU agenda to tackle to growing migrants crisis as tens of thousands of people board flimsy boats hoping to reach EU shores.

Nearly 2000 have drowned this year already.

Ramadi falls to IS presenting new challenge for Obama administration

The Iraqi city of Ramadi has completely fallen into the control of Islamic State after the Iraqi army fled to escape the advancing extremists.


There have been reports of widespread executions on the streets of the city and Iraq's Prime Minister is now asking Shi'ite fighters - backed by Iran - to try and recapture the city.

Russia loses another space rocket

Russia's federal space agency said a Russian rocket carrying a Mexican satellite has been lost over Siberia soon after launch on Saturday. US Senate Faces Battle Over PATRIOT Act Renewal


With just days left until the US PATRIOT Act is set to expire, Republicans in the Senate are still deeply divided about its future.

The Act, brought in after 9/11, includes a controversial provision allowing spy agencies to collect the metadata of Americans' phone conversations - first revealed by Edward Snowden.
