EU foreign ministers to agree new anti-migrant-trafficking mission

Foreign Ministers of the European Union meeting in Brussels on Monday are expected to sign off a naval mission to destroy boats used by migrant traffickers.

But early plans for intelligence gathering and the seizure of ships in Libyan waters, could come into effect before a United Nations resolution is voted through.

Three die in Kabul Taliban attack

The UK Foreign Office has confirmed a British national was among three people who were killed following a car bomb attack close to Afghanistan's main airport in Kabul...

The Taliban has claimed responsibility for the attack, which left 18 others injured.

CALLS FOR 2016 UK EU REFERENDUM GROW

Pressure is growing on UK Prime Minister David Cameron to hold an EU referendum in 2016.

He has promised an in-out referendum on Britain's membership of the European Union by 2017.

But Bank of England Governor Mark Carney has urged him to hold it as soon as possible to remove uncertainty for businesses.

And now Andy Burnham, Shadow Health Secretary and one of the front-runners in the race to become the opposition Labour Party's new leader, also says the vote should be held next year.

Russia loses another space rocket

Russia's federal space agency said a Russian rocket carrying a Mexican satellite has been lost over Siberia soon after launch on Saturday. On Tuesday, Russia was forced to delay the return of three astronauts from the International Space Station after its cargo ship also burned up on April 28th. Anya Ardayeva reports from Moscow.

US Senate Faces Battle Over PATRIOT Act Renewal


With just days left until the US PATRIOT Act is set to expire, Republicans in the Senate are still deeply divided about its future.

The Act, brought in after 9/11, includes a controversial provision allowing spy agencies to collect the metadata of Americans' phone conversations - first revealed by Edward Snowden.

US forces kill IS commander, capture wife in raid on Eastern Syria

US Special Forces have captured the wife of a senior Islamic State commander….but her husband died in the operation to apprehend them.


The Pentagon says the operation took place in eastern Syria.

Death penalty for Dzokhar Tsarnaev

The jury has recommended the death penalty for Dzokhar Tsarnaev, the surviving brother in the Boston Marathon bombing case.

Four died and more than 260 were injured in April 2013 when the Tsarnaev brothers detonated two pressure cooker bombs, then went on a violent rampage across Boston.

US urges reform as thousands flee Myanmar


The U.S. is urging the government of Myanmar to focus on reform as thousands of ethnic minorities, including Rohingya Muslims piling into rickety fishing vessels as they flee persecution.

After years of isolation, Myanmar's government has been increasingly engaged with the international community, although questions remain about human rights in the authoritarian regime.
