UKIP LEADERSHIP ATTACKS ITSELF

Britain's anti-EU, anti-immigration party UKIP is showing signs of implosion just days after a general election in which it secured only one seat.

One of the party's senior officials has launched a stinging criticism of UKIP leader Nigel Farage.

Patrick O'Flynn MEP says Mr Farage has become a 'snarling, thin-skinned, aggressive' man.

And he warns the party is in danger of turning into a 'personality cult' after Nigel Farage resigned as leader last week only to withdraw his resignation.

This as Mr Farage is locked in a row with UKIP's only MP Douglas Carswell over party funding.

Britain's new Conservative government is setting out plans to offer English cities much greater powers.

It comes with huge pressure from Scottish nationalists the SNP for more powers for Scotland after they won dozens of seats in last week's general election.

The government promises Scotland will see its parliament boosted - but also wants to extend decision-making abilities to English regions too.

Chancellor George Osborne is setting out plans to give the northern city of Manchester control of issues like housing, transport, planning and policing, via an elected Mayor.

US Senate Strikes Deal on Fast-Track Trade Promotion Authority

Lawmakers in the US Senate have reached a deal to move forward with fast-track trade legislation, a centrepiece of President Obama's economic agenda.  

The new agreement on Trade Promotion Authority, or TPA, comes after the initial trade package failed in a Senate vote on Tuesday. 

If passed, TPA would allow give Congress a simple yes or no vote on new trade deals such as the Trans Pacific Partnership - here's our Washington correspondent Lorna Shaddick.

Investigation into fatal Philadelphia train crash focuses on speed

Data recorders have been recovered from the wreckage of an American train that derailed in Philadelphia in an accident that claimed 7 lives.

More than 50 people were treated in hospital for their injuries.

Reports suggest the train was traveling at twice the 50 mile per-hour speed limit when the accident occurred.

Nepal emergency preparedness saved lives: UN say

Efforts over the past 15 years to protect and safeguard Nepal's health
sector helped save lives after an initial 7.8 magnitude earthquake
struck the country in April.

China strongly criticizes US over proposed South China Sea military plans

Number two ISIS commander reported killed

Iraq's Defence Ministry reports that the number two commander of the self-proclaimed Islamic State is dead.

Six dead in U.S. train crash

Six are confirmed dead and more than 200 injured after an Amtrak passenger train derailed just north of Philadelphia enroute to New York.

The passenger rail service is urging people to call in to confirm whether all passengers are accounted for.

New anti-extremism bill in UK

UK Prime Minister David Cameron is to announce new powers to tackle radicalisation, saying a "poisonous" extremist ideology must be confronted.
