MILIBAND ATTACKS CAMERON ON FOREIGN POLICY

Foreign Policy is taking centre stage in the UK election with Labour attacking the coalition government's record on Libya.

Labour leader Ed Miliband claims Conservative Prime Minister David Cameron failed to 'stand by' the country after military action in 2011.

Mr Miliband says that failure has contributed to the current migrant crisis in the Mediterannean.

And he insists Britain's influence on the world stage has crumbled under David Cameron's leadership.

UK AND THE WORLD 'FAILED LIBYA' - MILIBAND

The Leader of the UK's Labour Party has blamed the British Prime Minister and other world leaders for contributing to the crisis in the Mediterranean, by not standing by Libya.

It's estimated around 800 people died after a boat transporting them to Europe sank off the Libyan coast on Sunday.

And as Natalie Powell reports, Labour's Ed Miliband has criticised the UK and global governments for failures in post-conflict planning in Libya, with an election approaching in Britain.

EU TO TRIPLE FUNDING FOR MIGRANT CRISIS SEARCH AND RESCUE

The European Union is to triple funding for search and rescue operations amid the migrant crisis in the Mediterranean.

A summit of leaders in Brussels also agreed to explore ways to destroy the boats used by people traffickers, and several countries are promising to contribute ships to the search and rescue operation.

Over 1700 migrants have died in the Mediterranean this year attempting to cross to Europe from Libya.

Refugee expert at rights group Amnesty International Steve Simmons says the tripling of funding for search and rescue is misleading.

COMMEMORATIONS MARK ARMENIAN KILLINGS, GALLIPOLI CAMPAIGN

Commemorations are being held around the world to mark 100 years since the Ottoman Turks began mass killings of Armenians.

Armenia says as many as 1.5 million people died in a genocide during World War I - Turkey disputes these numbers and objects to its description as 'genocide'.

Turkey is also hosting ceremonies to mark the 100th anniversary of the beginning of the Battle of Gallipoli, with Armenia accusing Turkey of trying to divert attention away from commemorations for the mass killings.

The fighting at Gallipoli started on April 25th when allied forces landed on on the Gallipoli peninsula, but the invasion failed, leading to tens of thousands of casualties, notably of Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (Anzac) soldiers.

Military historian Tom Thorpe says it's right that Gallipoli's 100th anniversary is being marked.
