BRUSSELS TO CHARGE GAZPROM

The EU says formal charges will be filed against Russian gas giant Gazprom over claims of unfair pricing in central and eastern Europe.

The European Commission says it believes Gazprom has broken anti-trust rules.

Brussels claims eight countries received unfair prices because of Gazprom's contracts including Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Bulgaria, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.

Gazprom says the EU objections are 'unfounded'.

EU anti-monopoly chief Margrethe Vestager says the decision to file charges against the Russian gas giant is not politically motivated..

Poland to buy US surface to air missiles against Russia threat

Poland has announced a deal to buy US patriot surface-to-air missiles amid growing concerns about Russian aggression in eastern Europe.

EU announces competition charges against Gazprom

The European Union has announced legal proceedings against Russian, gas giant Gazprom.

It's the result of a three year investigation into accusations the company ties its gas price to the price of oil and prevents some countries where it is dominant from reexporting the gas they've purchased.

TESCO POSTS BIGGEST LOSS IN ITS HISTORY

British supermarket giant Tesco has reported the worst annual pre-tax loss in its history of £6.4bn ($9.5bn).

Tesco Chief Executive Dave Lewis says it has been a 'very difficult year'.

The loss is worse than expected and is partly due to Tesco writing down the property value of its physical stores.

But the supermarket insists efforts to win back customers are beginning to work - with transaction numbers beginning to rise for the first time since 2012.

US Agency chief loses job after "sex parties" scandal

The head of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency has resigned following revelations about sex parties.

White House plays down US warship build-up near Yemen

The ramped-up US Navy presence near Yemen is aimed at helping ensure the "free flow of commerce" and the "freedom of navigation" in the area - the latest line from the White House as instability in the region continues.

Gazprom head in Greece as possible legal challenge forming from EU

The Head of Russia's energy giant Gazprom, Alexei Miller, is in Greece and may be discussing advancing funds to cash strapped Athens in return for a natural gas pipeline deal.


It comes as the EU charges Gazprom of abusing its position as an energy supplier by overcharging buyers in eastern Europe.
