Tsarnaev lawyers face battle to avoid death penalty

Defence lawyers for the convicted Boston marathon bomber Dzhokar Tsarnaev are preparing to try and save his life at the penalty phase in the trial.


His conviction yesterday on 30 separate counts leaves him eligible for a death sentence.

Tsarnaev Found Guilty of Boston Bombing

Dzhokar Tsarnaev has been found guilty of carrying out the most bloody terrorist attack on US Soil since the events of September 11th 2001.

The Boston Marathon bombing attack of 2013 killed three and injured 264 others.

Tsarnaev was also convicted of killing a police officer while on the run, during which his older brother Tamerlan was killed.

Many of the charges carry a death penalty, but his sentence hearing is still to get underway.

Speaking after the 21 year old was convicted of all 30 counts against him, bombing survivor Karen Brassard says she was not convinced by defense arguments about being misled by his older brother.

Guilty verdict reached in Boston Marathon Bombing trial

A guilty verdict has been reached in the case against Boston Marathon Bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev. 

In Boston Federal Court Wednesday, a jury of local residents unanimously found the 21 year old guilty of the 30 charges against him, after he and his older brother waged a coordinated attack on the people of Boston in 2013.

South Carolina police officer fired after shooting black man

Protesters have held rallies in South Carolina against the police treatment of African Americans, following the murder of a black man- who was shot in the back by a white police officer. The act was recorded on a cell phone.

The police officer, Michael Slager, has been charged with murder and fired from the police force, while the U.S. federal authorities investigate.

North Charleston police chief, Eddie Driggers, says he has ordered the wearing of body cameras on all officers from now on.

Obama will offer Caribbean nations an alternative to Venezuelan oil

Afghan Soldier Opens Fire on US Troops

The US-led military coalition in Afghanistan has said that an American solider has been killed, after an Afghan solider opened fire on troops in Jalalabad.

The area police chief said US soldiers returned fire, killing the assailant.
