Afghan Soldier Opens Fire on US Troops

The US-led military coalition in Afghanistan has said that an American solider has been killed, after an Afghan solider opened fire on troops in Jalalabad.

The area police chief said US soldiers returned fire, killing the assailant.

South Carolina police officer makes first court appearance over murder charges

A South Carolina policeman has made his first court appearance after being arrested for the murder of an unarmed black man in the city of North Charleston.


Michael Slager who - like most officers in the local police force - is white, can be seen on cellphone video shooting Mr. Scott in the back.

French far-right party thrown into internal family dispute

France's far-right political party - the Front National - is facing another series of controversy as its leader, Marine le Pen, announces she will oppose the candidacy of her own father for national elections.

Jean-Marie le Pen - the founder of the party - who handed over the reigns to his daughter in 2011, will not receive her support for him to run for the Provence Alpes Cote d'Azur seat in the south of France.

Illegal immigration rises sharply in Germany


The number of illegal immigrants registered by German police increased 75% in 2014.

Labour promises new rules for "non-doms"


Labour leader Ed Miliband is promising a future Labour government will abolish a non-domicile tax rule that allows the wealthiest UK residents to avoid tax on earnings outside the country.

Royal Dutch Shell and BG Group in $70bn takeover offer

The oil giant Royal Dutch Shell has agreed to buy gas and oil exploration company BG Group in a deal which could create a company worth nearly 300 billion dollars…

BG Group's shared opened up 42 per cent higher on the London Stock Exchange.

Stanford students invent ultra quick-charging battery

Students at Stanford University in California have invented an aluminium battery they claim should be able to charge smartphones in around one minute.

They say it's also longer lasting, safer and cheaper to make than many widely-available commercial batteries.

South Carolina policeman faces murder charges after video-taped killing

A policemen in the American state of South Carolina has been charged with murder after a video showed him shooting an unarmed black man in the back.


50 year old Walter Scott was killed after being pulled over because the car he was driving had a broken tail-light.

South Carolina Officer Charged with Murder after Video Surfaces

A South Carolina police officer has been charged with murder after a video surfaced showing him shooting and killing an apparently unarmed black man in the back. 

The shooting comes on the heels of several high profile incidents across the United States that have sparked  a debate over whether U.S. police are too quick to use deadly force, particularly in cases involving black men.

Russian hackers may have breached White House servers - CNN

According to the CNN report, the Russians used a previous attack on the U.S. State Deparment to gain further access to Obama administration files

Two 17 year olds from West Yorkshire feared to be travelling to IS territory in Syria

Two British teenagers are feared to be travelling to Islamic State held territory in Syria after leaving from their homes in the north of England.   

The 17 year olds are believed to have flown to Turkey at the end of March.  The families say they are praying for their safe return.

Humanitarian crisis as fighting rages in Yemen

As Yemen descends into all out war, experts are warning that an immense humanitarian disaster is looming, with food and water scarce and medical supplies running out.

Fighting in and around Aden, the port city, has killed at least 540, and injured 2,000 and displaced 100,000, with many more fleeing the violence in the country of 25 million.

At the White House, spokesman Josh Earnest said the U.S. wants all parties, the Houthi rebels and the fighters with al Qaeda ties to lay down their arms and negotiate a political settlement.

Iran deal focuses on nuclear programme, not broader policy

Republican leaders are criticizing the framework deal with Iran on its nuclear program as a  a direct threat to peace and security of the region and the world because Tehran has made it clear that it wants to export the Iranian Revolution.

The White House counters that this deal is only about the nuclear program, while Speaker of the House John Boehner says the agreement assumes too much.

Obama, Castro could meet at Panama summit

US officials are reportedly close to recommending Cuba be removed from Washington's list of State Sponsors of Terrorism.

Such a move would make it significantly easier for the two countries to establish embassies in each other's capitals.

It comes ahead of a summit this week to be attended by both President Obama and President Castro.

US State Dept investigating reports of 'faster weapon delivery to Yemen'


The State Department wont confirm a statement from a top official that the U.S. is speeding up the delivery of weapons to aid the fight against rebels in conflict-torn Yemen.

Spokeswoman Marie Harf is checking on comments made by Deputy Secretary of State Antony Blinken.

Blinken told reporters in Saudi Arabia today the U.S. has expedited weapons deliveries and increased intelligence sharing in support of the legitimate president of Yemen.

Florida judge throws out sex allegations against British prince

Rand Paul Announces 2016 Presidential Bid

The US Republican Senator for the state of Kentucky, Rand Paul, has formally announced the launch of his bid for the White House. 

The 52 year old former eye doctor is known as a libertarian, anti-establishment candidate, and, at a campaign rally in Louisville, Kentucky, said he wants to return America to the principles of limited government.

U.S. job openings at 14 year high

The amount of job openings in the United States has risen to a 14 year
high with a position now available for every 1.69 Americans.

This data released by the U.S. Labor Department is a sign that the

Fourth man charged in connection with plot to help ISIS
