US condemns terrorist attack at Kenyan University

The U.S. is condemning the attack on Garissa University College as heinous.

At least 15 were killed and dozens injured when al-Shabaab terrorists stormed the dormitories at the Kenyan university.

Iran talks continue in Lausanne past Wednesday deadline

Talks in Lausanne are ongoing between Iran and six world powers working overtime to draft a political agreement to curb Tehran's nuclear ambitions. 

Negotiations have been extended beyond Wednesday's cut off day. due to differences over how much detail to include in a preliminary agreement, ahead of June's final deadline.

At least 14 dead after attack on university in north-eastern Kenya

At least fourteen people are feared to have died after a group of gunmen attacked a university in north-eastern Kenya. 

Around 30 people were wounded in the attack.  Kenyan police are on the scene in the town of Garissa.

German town mourns amid media scrutiny

The German town of Haltern am See held a memorial for the sixteen high school students and two teachers who died in the Germanwings place crash in the French Alps. 

The intense media focus though has rubbed some residents the wrong way.

9 Britons detained in Turkey trying to cross to Syria


Turkish authorities say they've detained nine British nationals caught trying to enter Syria illegally. 

The group, three men, two women and four children, thought to be aged between 2 and 10 were seized close to the Syrian border at the town of Reyhanli.  They remain in custody and are expected to be deported.

Britain's Foreign Office says it's investigating the reports.  Its not yet known if the group are members of the same family or whether they were trying to join Islamic State forces in Syria.   Hundreds of Britons have joined Islamic State forces in the region. 

Reporter Hannah Lucinda Smith told LBC Radio the group were not detained near IS-held territory.

Clegg says voters must prepare for another coalition government


In Britain the leaders of 7 political parties are preparing for the first and only live televised debate of the general election campaign. 

Conservative leader,  Prime Minister David Cameron will  go head to head with his rival for the top job, Labour's Ed Miliband in the two hour debate. They will be joined by five other candidates

The leaders will face questions from a 200-strong audience surrounding key election issues, likely to include the economy and the national healthcare service. 

The Conservative's junior government coalition partner, the Liberal Democrats will be represented by leader Nick Clegg who told LBC Radio that voters must used to the idea of a hung parliament.

7 leaders prepare for televised debate ahead of Britain's general election

In Britain the leaders of 7 political parties are preparing for the first and only live televised debate of the general election campaign. 

Conservative leader,  Prime Minister David Cameron will come face to face with his rival for the top job, Labour's Ed Miliband in the two hour debate.   However they will be joined by five other candidates...including the leaders of smaller parties like the Greens and regional parties from Wales and Scotland. 

The Conservative's junior government coalition partner, the Liberal Democrats will be represented by leader Nick Clegg while Nigel Farage of the anti-immigration and anti- Europe UKIP party will also take part. 

Vincent Moss, politcal editor of the right-leaning Sunday Mirror tabloid newspaper told LBC Radio that  many voters could be put-off by the format involving so many politicians.

At least 54 dead as Russian trawler sinks off country's far east

A Russian trawler has sunk off the country's far eastern Kamchatka peninsula with 54 sailors so far confirmed dead.


Sixty three have reportedly been rescued, many of them suffering from hypothermia according to rescuers.

McDonalds raises pay for tens of thousands of workers

McDonald's has announced that it will increase pay for 90-thousand of its workers in the U.S.

The higher wages are seen as part of a new strategy to boost sagging sales that includes bringing in a new CEO earlier this year, and offering the popular breakfast menu all day.

US Senator Bob Menendez indicted for corruption

A federal grand jury has found there is enough evidence to charge U.S. Senator Robert Menendez, a Democrat from New Jersey, with corruption.

The senator has served as the chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, among other leadership roles, until the change in power following the mid-term 2014 elections.

First Mandatory Water Restrictions for Drought-Stricken California

California Governor Jerry Brown has announced the state’s first mandatory water restrictions with an executive action aimed at reducing water usage by 25 percent across the state.

Eleven teachers found guilty in test score cheating scandal in Georgia

Eleven school teachers have been found guilty in a test-score cheating scandal in Atlanta, Georgia.

Kerry To Stay at Iran Talks Into Thursday


The current talks over Iran's nuclear programme are set to extend into Thursday, as the US State Department announced that Secretary John Kerry will be staying Switzerland overnight.

Spokeswoman Marie Harf tweeted that the negotiators have not yet reached a political understanding, and Mr. Kerry will remain in Lausanne until at least Thursday morning to continue the discussions.

Amazon Unveils Dash for Home Staples

Nuclear talks set to extend, WH says progress still being made


White House spokesman Josh Earnest says progress is ongoing in the Iran nuclear talks despite running well past Tuesday's deadline for a framework deal.
