UK ELECTION CAMPAIGN UNDERWAY WITH PARLIAMENT DISSOLVED

Britain's Parliament has been dissolved ahead of one of the closest general election races in decades.

Prime Minister David Cameron will visit (has visited) the Queen to formally mark the end of the coalition government formed in 2010.

The Conservative leader says there would be 'economic chaos' if Labour win May 7's election.

Labour leader Ed Miliband says the Conservatives are in 'chaos' themselves over Mr Cameron's leadership and the UK's EU membership.

Both men, meanwhile, know that if they can't win a majority they may have to attempt to form a coalition with smaller parties after polling day.

Political editor of 5 News Andy Bell says the polls suggest it's too close to call.
