UK TO BOOST FALKLANDS DEFENCES

Britain is to boost its defences of the Falkland Islands in the south Atlantic.

It follows increasingly aggressive statements on the archipelago by Argentina, and reports that Russia is to supply Buenos Aires with strike aircraft.

Russia media NGO forced to pay biggest fine yet under 'foreign agent' law

The director of a St.Petersburg non governmental organisation says she has had to pay the biggest fine so far imposed under Russia's controversial, "foreign agent," law.


The law targets NGOs deemed to have foreign funding and engaged in what the government terms 'political activity."

The two main actors in the Greek Eurozone drama finally met in Berlin as German Chancellor Angela Merkel hosted Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras.

Supreme Court considers Disability Law’s effect with mentally ill

The U.S. Supreme Court is considering whether police must take special precautions when trying to arrest suspects who are armed, dangerous and mentally ill, under the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Justices have been hearing arguments in a controversy over how police dealt with a schizophrenic San Francisco woman in 2008.

U.S. withdraws personnel from Yemen, counter-terrorism efforts questioned

U.S. officials are trying to reassure regional partners and others that the Obama administrations efforts to combat terrorism will continue following the withdrawal of American personnel from Yemen.

The decision was taken by Washington over the weekend as fighters with ties to al Qaeda captured a city uncomfortably close to where American military forces were staying.

Nazi hideout discovered in Argentina


Argentinian archaeologists from the University of Buenos Aires say they have discovered buildings believed to have been a Nazi hideout.

The remote ruins, located in Teyu Cuare Park in the northern part of the country, were first discovered years ago, but extensive research only began this month.

SINGAPORE MOURNS LEE KUAN YEW

Singapore has started seven days of national mourning after the death of its founding Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew.

He died at the age of 91.

Mr Lee was Singapore's Prime Minister for 31 years - turning the city-state into a global financial hub and one of the wealthiest nations on earth.

Lord Hurd served in the governments of Margaret Thatcher and John Major between 1979 and 1995 - he says Lee Kuan Yew was an impressive man.

Centre-right party holds off far-right Front National in French local elections

Early results show France's conservative UMP party have held off the country's burgeoning far-right Front National to be the first party in local elections.
