CLARKSON 'REGRETS' FRACAS

BBC presenter Jeremy Clarkson says he regrets an incident which has led to him being suspended, and episodes of his Top Gear show being dropped.

The BBC is investigating a so-called 'fracas' with a producer while hundreds of thousands have signed a petition calling for Mr Clarkson to be reinstated.

And as Olly Barratt reports, the presenter doesn't appear unduly troubled by the controversy.

Kerry Urges Lawmakers to Approve Authorisation For Use of Military Force

Top Obama administration officials, including Secretary of State John Kerry, have been making the case to Congress for an updated Authorisation for Use of Military Force against the Islamic State organisation.

The three-page resolution would take the place of the 2002 authorization for the Iraq War, but limits the use of U.S. military forces for "enduring ground operations."

Main Suspect In Nemtsov's Case Says He Was Forced To Confess

Zaur Dadayev, one of the Chechen nationals charged with the murder of Russian opposition politician Boris Nemsov, was forced to make his confession according to a member of Russia's Human Rights Council. Andrei Babushkin visited Dadayev in prison on Tuesday and said that the suspect looks like he had been tortured. Anya Ardayeva reports from Moscow.

11 US military personnel feared dead after helicopter crash in Florida


Seven marines and four soldiers are missing, presumed dead, after their army helicopter came down while training in the US state of Florida. 

The crash occurred near Pensacola during a night training exercise from the Eglin Air Force Base. 

The UH-60 helicopter, also known as a Black Hawk, is thought to have crashed into the water in thick fog.  Debris from the helicopter has been located and human remains have also washed ashore. Eglin spokesman Andy Bourland spoke to Fox News.

11 US military personnel feared killed in helicopter crash

Seven US Marines and four soldiers are presumed dead after their helicopter crashed during a training exercise.

The chopper is believed to have come down near the Florida coast in the Gulf of Mexico in poor weather conditions.

Petition grows to reinstate Top Gear's Clarkson

More than 350 thousand people have signed a petition calling for the BBC to reinstate the presenter of the Top Gear television programme Jeremy Clarkson after he was dropped from the show. 

The 54 year old presenter was suspended after what's been described as a fracas with one of the show's producers.  The incident is being investigated.   The BBC is understood to be planning to drop the final two episodes of the programme. 

Top Gear is one of the BBC's most popular and profitable TV shows, with an estimated global audience of 350 million.  Jeremy Clarkson is a controversial figure with a history of making remarks that some people have found offensive.    

Fellow Top Gear presenter James May told reporters outside his home that he didn't think the incident was serious.

Joint Iraqi forces take control of Tikrit Military Hospital

Joint Iraqi forces have taken control of the military hospital in the key city of Tikrit- in a battle that the U.S. has dubbed the biggest test of the fight against the Islamic State.

Iraqi forces are working alongside the Shia militia, as well as Sunni fighters, in their offensive to take the city from four sides.

Utah to allow execution via firing squad

Legislation to allow the use of firing squads in death penalty cases is heading to the desk of Utah governor Gary Herbert.

The bill was put forward as questions continue to be raised about using drugs to carry out executions in capital punishment cases.

Greek Justice Minister threatens German assets

Euro could reach parity with dollar in coming weeks

The euro is expected to reach parity with the dollar in the coming weeks, which would be the lowest the euro's been in comparison with the dollar since 2003.

RUSSIA SUSPENDS PARTICIPATION IN CONVENTIONAL ARMS GROUP

Moscow has suspended its participation in a consulting group on the Treaty on Conventional Armed Forces in Europe.

The original Treaty was signed in 1990 by 16 NATO and six Warsaw Pact members. It set equal ceilings for each bloc on key categories of conventional armaments.

Russia's military is overstretched in Ukraine, says expert report

A report from a London-based think tank says Russia's military involvement in Ukraine is so great, it's struggling to maintain the scale of its operations.
The Royal United Services Institute report says a total of 42,000 Russian combat troops have been sent into Ukraine since last August.

I.S. POST VIDEO OF 'BOY SHOOTING ISRAELI ARAB PRISONER'

The Islamic State has posted a video online claiming to show a boy shooting dead an Israeli Arab prisoner.

In the video the boy is accompanied by a French-speaking militant who also threatens attacks on Jews in France.
