Delta Airlines jet slides off runway in New York

A Delta airlines plane has skidded off the runway at New York's La Guardia airport in the middle of an intense winter storm.


The plane was arriving in New York from Atlanta.

American man faces jail in UAE over Facebook post

An American man faces up to five years in prison in the United Arab Emirates after being arrested over comments he posted on Facebook in the United States.

Helicopter mechanic Ryan Pate took to Facebook while in Florida after a dispute over sick leave with his employer Global Aerospace Logistics .

On returning to Abu Dhabi he was arrested for breaking the country's strict cyber-slander laws.

UK TEACHER SENTENCED FOR SYRIA JIHAD PLANS

A chemistry teacher from Britain who planned to travel to Syria and fight along Islamic State has been jailed for 6 years.  


Jamshed Javeed, from Manchester, was preparing to leave his home after helping his younger brother to travel to Syria. He was arrested in December 2013 hours before he was set to leave the UK.

US Circus Company To Stop Using Elephants

Ringling Brothers, one of the largest circus companies in America, has announced it's to end the use of elephants in its shows.

ECB says QE to launch next Monday

The European Central Bank has announced it will launch its quantitative easing program next Monday.

After a meeting of the bank's governing council in Cyrpus, President Mario Draghi revealed plans to purchase around 60 billion eurozone government bonds every month until September in order to lift falling consumer prices in the eurozone.

US Ambassador to South Korea receives 80 stitches to face

Washington's ambassador to South Korea, Mark Lippert, underwent two-and-a half hours of surgery to his face, after he was slashed by a Korean nationalist wielding a razor blade.

The American diplomat suffered deep gashes to his face and wrist, but tweeted he was fine, after doctors stitched him up.

The attacker was arrested and identified as Kim Ki-Jong, a 55-year old who had previously tried to attack the Japanese ambassador to South Korea.

BANK OF ENGLAND AUCTIONS INVESTIGATED BY SFO

The UK's Serious Fraud Office is investigating the Bank of England's liquidity auctions held during the financial crisis.

The Bank referred the matter to the SFO itself after commissioning an inquiry of its own into whether staff were aware of, or involved in, possible manipulation of auctions around 2007 and 2008.

The liquidity auctions were designed to prop up the banking system during the financial crisis.

The investigation centres on whether those auctions were rigged or scammed to produce fraudulent profits.

Danny Cox of stockbroker Hargreaves Lansdown says it's not the first time the Bank has been investigated about what it knew of the misbehaviour of those in the financial services industry.

Australian Prime Minister questions the logic of Indonesia's execution regime.

US Ambassador to South Korea attacked by man wielding razor

The US Ambassador to South Korea is recovering after being attacked by a man wielding a razor blade.


Ambassador Mark Lippert - a close friend of President Obama - was attending a breakfast in Seoul when the incident occurred.

Congressional panel subpoenas Clinton emails

A select House of Representatives committee has issued a subpoena of emails from the newly revealed Hillary Clinton personal email account.
