German nurse who admitted to killing 30 receives life sentence

A German nurse who admitted to killing 30 patients by administering lethal overdose, has been given a life sentence.

A court in northern Germany found the man guilty on two counts of murder and two counts of attempted murder.

CAGE UK: JIHADI JOHN RADICALISED BY UK SECURITY SERVICES

The Islamic State militant known as 'Jihadi John' has been named as a young British man who was known to intelligence services.

The man who has appeared in several IS beheading videos is understood to be Mohammed Emwazi, a Kuwait-born Briton from west London.

He's thought to be in his mid-20s and to have traveled to Syria around 2012 and later joined the Islamic State.

Asim Qureshi from activist group CAGE, which campaigns against the war on terror and had contact with Emwazi before he left for Syria, accused UK security services of radicalising him through harrassment.

Mr Qureshi became emotional as he spoke of the young man he had been in contact with before he traveled to Syria.

Bin Laden documents shown in New York court

A court in New York has seen documents seized after a raid on the
compound of Osama Bin Laden in 2011 containing details of planned
attacks.

This comes during the trial of a Pakistani man Abid Naseer who's
accused of helping al-Qaeda plan attacks in England and the United
States.

RBS announces £3.5 billion loss

The UK state owned banks RBS has reported a £3.5 billion ($5.4 billion) loss for 2014, down from a £9 billion ($14 billion) loss the previous year.

The bank is 79% owned by the British taxpayer after a government-led rescue in 2008.

Cyprus allows Russian warships into its ports

European Union member state, Cyprus, has signed a deal with Russia to permit access for Russian warships in Cypriot ports.

The move comes despite a swathe of EU and US sanctions imposed on Russia over the Ukraine crisis.

RBS REPORTS LOSS, UNDER FIRE OVER BONUSES

British bank RBS has reported a £3.5bn ($5.4bn) loss for 2014.

It's a smaller loss than the previous year for the bank which had to be bailed out during the financial crisis.

But it's results were hit by a writedown related to the sale of its US business Citizens.

The bank's chief executive says he will not receive a bonus this year - but UK Chancellor George Osborne has written to RBS' new chairman saying he expects no bonuses to be awarded to senior executives.

RBS is still 79 % owned by the UK taxpayer.

Laith Khalaf from stockbrokers Hargreaves Lansdown says RBS was already having a difficult 2015.

3 Al-Jazeera journalists arrested for flying a drone in Paris

Police in France have arrested three journalists from the Al-Jazeera news channel for flying a drone over the city of Paris.

It comes after two nights of repeated drone sightings over sensitive locations and landmarks in the French capital.

The machines have the capability to capture high-quality, ariel footage.

Winter storm postpones US death row inmate's execution

The first woman due to be executed in the American state of Georgia for 70 years has been told that her execution is being delayed because of a winter storm.


Kelly Gissendaner was due to be put to death on Wednesday night…..but prison authorities say the execution will have to wait until next Monday.

FBI agents in Brooklyn, New York have arrested three men for allegedly attempting to travel abroad to join the Islamic State. The trio first came to the attention of law enforcement in 2014, after expressing online support for the terrorist group and threatening attacks in America.

Apple hit with $533 million patent fine

Apple's been ordered to pay almost $533 million in damages in an iTunes patent infringement case.

A Texas jury determined the world's most valuable company had willfully used Smartflash's patents without its permission.

Apple says it will appeal the ruling.

Kerry sending weapons to Ukraine is still being discussed

Secretary of State John Kerry says sending weapons to Ukraine will not defeat aggression from Russian-backed separatists but he did not rule it out altogether.

Obama administration criticises planned visit of Israeli PM Netanyahu
