EU leaders meet in Brussels to talk Ukraine and Greece

European Union leaders are meeting in Brussels to discuss the violence in Ukraine and a continuing lack of compromise on Greece's debt crisis.

French President Francois Holland and German Chancellor Angela Merkel flew in for the talks after a meeting in Minsk with Russian President Putin, where the heads of state agreed to implement a ceasefire in East Ukraine.

Further measures to stop the fighting between government forces and pro-russian rebels will also be discussed, though its believed that preparations to sanction Russia further for lack of cooperation on Ukraine, have been stalled.

Walking into talks, President of the European Council Donald Tusk said the real test will be whether the ceasefire sticks.

Belarus talks end in ceasefire deal for eastern Ukraine

Marathon overnight peace talks in Belarus have ended with an agreement to end the fighting in eastern Ukraine.

A ceasefire will begin on 15th February.  The deal also includes weapons withdrawals and prisoner exchanges.

The deal was hashed out by Russian President Vladimir Putin, Ukraine's Petro Poroshenko and the leaders from France and Germany.

Thousands of people have died in almost a year of fighting in the region with an upturn in military and civilian deaths in recent weeks.

The pro-Russian rebels in eastern Ukraine have signed the agreement.  A previous ceasefire deal was quickly abandoned last September.

Britain's Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg says international pressure must be applied so all sides stick to the agreement.

Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatseniuk described the reforms needed as "very difficult."

It comes as Russian President Vladimir Putin, Ukraine's Petro Poroshenko, and leaders of France and Germany announced that a ceasefire would begin in eastern Ukraine on 15 February, following overnight peace talks.
