Oklahoma set for first execution after 9-month delay

The U.S. state of Oklahoma is set to carry out its first execution since April, after a delay spurred by the controversial botched lethal injection of a prisoner last spring

CIA staff cleared over US Senate-computer spying

The CIA says their employees should not be reprimanded for searching Senate computers last year. 

The report says an internal CIA panel revealed that five agency staff hacked into Senate computers on at least three occasions, but that they did so reasonably...

Switzerland releases currency cap against the euro

The Swiss National Bank has released its exchange rate cap on the Swiss franc - in place since 2011. 

Immediately after the decision, the Swiss franc dropped nearly 30% against from the maximum point in under the cap of one point two against the euro.

It's now worth just over nought point eight euros.

US transfers 5 detainees from Guantanamo to Oman, Estonia

The U.S. has transferred five detainees from Guantanamo Bay, Cuba to Oman and Estonia

The White House has been moving toward releasing all those detainees deemed not a security threat, as part of a strategy of closing the detention center.

New Ebola cases declining: UN say

According to weekly figures from the United Nations new cases of Ebola
are declining in the three West African nations worst affected by the
deadly virus.

This news follows comments made by the UN Ebola mission's chief
Anthony Banbury who says cases can be brought down to zero by the end
of the year.

Merkel calls for more EU data collection

German chancellor Angela Merkel called for the European Union to increase its ability to collect private data in the wake of last week's shootings in France that claimed 17 victims.

Washington announces eased Cuba restrictions


The Obama administration has unveiled new regulations meant to ease restrictions on travel and trade with Cuba, as part of the President's bid to normalize relations with the island.

Father of accused Ohio jihadist says son was set up

A 20-year-old Ohio man remains in custody on charges he plotted to blow up the U.S. capitol and kill U.S. government officials.

Cameron and Obama Publish Joint Op-Ed

Father of US Capitol plotter says it was a "set up"

The father of an American man arrested for plotting to attack the US Capitol building in support of the Islamic state says his son was "set up."

John Cornell, father of Christopher Cornell,  says his son was "lost and vulnerable," a non-violent man who only recently converted to Islam.

Christopher Cornell attracted the attention of a confidential FBI source after posting on twitter in support of violent extremism.

The FBI informant began to exchange messages with the 20 year old online.

Christopher Cornell was taken into custody Wednesday after purchasing two rifles and 600 pounds of ammunition.

John Cornell told CNN that his son would never have planned the attack on his own, and accuses the FBI and the unnamed source of leading Christopher into the plot.

Kerry will visit Paris to extend 'big hug'

US Secretary of State John Kerry says he's traveling to France to give Paris a "big hug" following last week's terror attacks.

Inactivity twice as dangerous as obesity, says study

Researchers at the University of Cambridge say more than twice as many people in Europe die every year from inactivity than being overweight.

They say as little as 20 minutes of brisk walking every day would have substantial benefits.
