Apple Shuts Down Online Sales in Russia Due to Fluctuating Ruble

Apple has stopped online sales of its products in Russia -- at least temporarily.
The tech giant says the shutdown is a result of extreme fluctuations in Russian currency.

'Nut Rage' executive faces criminal investigation

The former Korean Air executive who resigned following the 'nut-rage'
incident is being investigated on criminal charges by the South Korea
transport ministry.

Heather Cho's nut-inspired outburst delayed the departure of the
flight from New York, after she forced the plane to return to the gate
to drop off a steward.

Jeb Bush, the brother of former President George W Bush, says he's actively exploring the possibility of seeking the US Presidency in 2016.

UN chief condemns Pakistan school killings

The United Nations' Secretary-General has called the attack at the school in Pakistan "blood-curdling".

Ban Ki-moon said killing young children at school was an act of horror and cowardice, that was without justification.

Americans support torture in some cases - Poll

The majority of americans supported the use of enhanced interrorgation techniques following the 9/11 attacks - according to a poll by the Washington post ad ABC News.

THe findings showed that 53 percent of people believed the methods, revealled by a recent Senate report, DID produce useful counter-terrorism intelligence.

Savile victims fund given green light

Britain's highest court has endorsed the creation of a compensation fund for people who were sexually abused by the late DJ and TV Presenter Jimmy Savile. 

More than 200 people have filed claims against the BBC presenter who died in 2011. His estate is estimated to be worth around $5 million dollars.  From London, Catherine Drew reports.

Pennsylvania manhunt continues

A former US marine suspected of killing six people in towns near Philadelphia is still on the run this morning.

As a precaution residents in the area are being told to stay inside and local schools have been closed.

35 year old Bradley William Stone is thought to have murdered his ex-wife and five members of her family.

Four men who attempted to bomb the London Underground in 2005 have lost their appeal against their convictions at the European Court of Human Rights.

EU debates "money laundering register"

The EU is entering a final stage of negotiations on an anti-money laundering law that could reveal the identities of rich Europeans and where they stash their money.

At least 100 die in Pakistan school attack

At least 100 people have been killed during a Taliban attack on a school in the Pakistani city of Peshawar...

Officials say five or six militants wearing security uniforms entered the school with gunfire and explosions heard.

Most of the victims are understood to be children.

A Taliban spokesman said the assault was a response to army operations.

Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott says it will take time to clarify
exactly what happened in Sydney's Martin Place and why.
He says it's a tragedy that two hostages were killed as the 16-hour
siege in Sydney's CBD came to a bloody end early Tuesday morning.
Mr Abbott says the perpetrator was well known to state and commonwealth
authorities, having a long history of violent crime, infatuation with
extremism and mental instability.
He says it's tragic beyond words that people going about their daily
business were caught up in the siege.

Russia raises interest rate to 17 percent - Rouble world's worst-performing currency

Russia's central bank has raised its key interest rate up to 17 percent from 10.5 percent as the rouble fell to record lows.


Monday saw the largest one-day fall for the currency since 1998.


That makes the rouble the world's worst-performing currency this year, having fallen over 49 percent against the US dollar.

INVESTIGATION LAUNCHED INTO SYDNEY CAFE SIEGE OPERATION

An investigation's been launched into the police operation which ended the Sydney cafe siege, in which two hostages died.

The victims have been named as Tori Johnson, the 34 year old manager of the cafe, and Katrina Dawson, a 38 year old lawyer.

The hostage taker Man Haron Monis also died.

He was a known extremist and Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott says part of the investigation will focus on whether he could have been stopped.
