CIA and Senate exchange allegations over torture report

The CIA is hitting back after a Senate report accused the agency of "deception" and "brutality" in its use of torture after the September 11th attacks.


It's claiming that the so-called "enhanced interrogation techniques" did thwart terrorist plans and save lives.


President Obama says the agency has done "significant damage" to America's global reputation.

CIA, Republicans reject torture report

America's Central Intelligence Agency is rejecting the U.S. Senate Intelligence Committee report on torture as incomplete and selective.

Even before it was released, former U.S Vice President Dick Cheney took the lead in defending the CIA's actions, saying the intelligence officers ought to be decorated, not criticized.

Senate Intelligence Committee report slams CIA over use of torture in Bush wea

A widely-anticipated report by Democrats in the US Senate accuses the CIA of misleading the American public about the torture techniques unleashed against suspected members of Al Qaeda in the aftermath of the September 11th attacks.


President Obama says the report shows that the CIA's techniques during the era of President George W. Bush "did significant damage to America's standing in the world".


The report was released at the direction of Democrat Dianne Feinstein who heads the US Senate Intelligence Committee.

British royals lay flowers, leave note at 9/11 Memorial

Britain's Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have left a bouquet of flowers and a hand-written note at Ground Zero in New York - scene of the 9/11 Al Qaeda attacks on America.


In a visit to the September 11th Memorial in Lower Manhattan they paid tribute to the nearly 3 thousand victims, including 67 British citizens.

Sen. Feinstein to release CIA report

U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein, the outgoing chair of the U.S. Senate's Intelligence Committee, is set to release the report on torture by the CIA.

The report is six years in the making, and much of the 500 page executive summary will remain redacted.

Last French hostage freed

Militants from the Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb group have released the last French person to be kept hostage in the world.


Serge Lazarevich was taken in November 2011 while in Mali and says he was in relatively good health, as our Correspondent Jack Parrack reports from Paris.

Portuguese police questioning McCann witnesses

France accuses Germany of aiding the rise of French far-right parties.
