Australian Cricket captain Michael Clarke statement on Phil Hughes

Michael Clarke has often been the man for a crisis but never before has
he stood so strong.
The Australian Test Cricket captain has earned plaudits for leading like
never before, in a situation so removed from his post, while grieving
himself for his close friend Phillip Hughes.
Clarke was singled out for praise by Australian team doctor Peter
Brukner for being a rock of support for Hughes' parents - Greg and
Virginia - and siblings Megan and Jason in the bedside vigil at St
Vincents Hospital.
Clarke read a statement on behalf of the family.

Russia vows support for Syria's al-Assad

Russia has reaffirmed its support for Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, and has called for renewed peace talks between the government in Damascus and opposition groups.


The statement came with Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Moualem in Russia this week for talks with the Russian President.


But many say Russia's push for renewed Syria dialogue is unlikely to be fruitful.

Russia says it won't cut oil output even if OPEC does

Russia says that despite falling oil prices it will not cut production, even if the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries, or OPEC, does.


Falling oil prices have contributed to severe economic damage in Russia caused also by capital flight, inflation, a weakening rouble and sanctions over Moscow's actions in Ukraine.

Hughes family "devastated" after cricketer dies

Australia's test batsman 25-year-old Phil Hughes has died in hospital - just two days after being hit on the head by a delivery during a match in Sydney...

The country's team doctor Peter Brukner confirmed he passed away, having never regained consciousness.

Australia captain Michael Clarke read a statement on behalf of Phil's family, saying they were "devastated".

US Ebola vaccine tests show 'promising start'


Scientists say an experimental Ebola vaccine made by GlaxoSmithKline has passed an early safety test. 

A report in the "New England Journal of Medicine" says the vaccine has caused no serious side effects and produced an immune response in all 20 volunteers who received it. 

The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases is conducting the trial in Bethesda, Maryland.

At family's request, Cleveland police release tape showing killing of 13 year-old boy

Police in Cleveland have released a videotape showing one of their officers killing a 13 year old boy last weekend, less than 2 seconds after his squad car arrived on the scene to investigate reports that the child was carrying a gun.


It turned out that the gun was a replica.

Body Cameras For Police in New Jersey Cities


In the wake of the Ferguson grand jury decision in the Michael Brown case, mayors from the three largest cities in the U.S. state of New Jersey said they will require police officers in the cities of Newark, Jersey City and Paterson to wear body cameras while on duty. The Brown verdict sparked an international conversation about law enforcement tactics, and the Mayors say this is a step their state can take to mitigate police brutality.

Michael Brown's Mother: Officer Wilson 'Wanted To Kill'

The family of Michael Brown, the unarmed black teenager shot dead by a Ferguson policeman, has been reacting to his testimony.

Officer Darren Wilson has said he was threatened by Michael Brown, and has a 'clean conscience' over the shooting. He was acquitted by a grand jury earlier this week.

Ferguson protests continue


Demonstrations have shaken up Ferguson, Missouri in the past couple of days. This after the jury's deliberation to not charge the policeman responsible for the death of the unarmed teenager Michael Brown. Wednesday night, police forces arrested 40 protesters, as hundreds of National Guard troops patrolled the town.

Brothers jailed for attending Syria terrorism training camp

US rocked by second night of protests

Protestors burned a police car during a second night of protests on Tuesday in Ferguson, Missouri, after the state's governor sent hundreds more National Guard troops to restore order.

Tensions are still high after a grand jury's decision not to indict a police officer for shooting an unarmed black teenager.

Police in Ferguson made 44 arrests overnight, but the streets were largely calmer.
