State security deny IS militant recruitment in South Africa

INTRO:  State security officials in South Africa have rejected reports that locals were being recruited to join IS militants in Syria. A Sunday newspaper quoted a high level diplomat from Iraq as saying that the recent deaths of three South Africans in Syria was being covered up. It has also been claimed that extremists were using humanitarian aid programmes to get new recruits. Gary Alfonso reports ....

GDP data to show slower US economy

LONE WOLF ATTACK THREAT TO UK 'INCREASING'

London's police chief says there is a growing chance of a 'lone wolf' terror attack in Britain.

Metropolitan Police Commissioner, Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe says police have foiled one such plot a year on average, in recent years.

But he warns officers have foiled four or five in 2014.

California prisoners learn to code

Silicon Valley is turning prisoners into computer programmers through a new initiative called Code.7370.

18 inmates at San Quentin State Prison north of San Francisco are going through a rigorous coding bootcamp -- with a view to them one day working as entry-level web developers.

New US, Iran talks on nuclear programme in Vienna

Hours after it was reported U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry was set to travel to Paris to talk with his European counterparts, he apparently remained in Vienna for a fresh round of discussions with his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif.

With a deadline of November 24 inching ever closer, and major hurdles remaining to a possible deal between Iran and the P5+1, some are observing, Iran's religious leaders including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei may scupper whatever agreement is reached.

Director of the U.S. State Department's press office Jeff Rathke says the situation is fluid and refused to confirm any travel plans for U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry.

VP Biden warns Russia faces further isolation

U.S. Vice President Joe Biden is warning Russia that it faces further isolation from the international community unless it starts to cooperate and help resolve the ongoing Ukranian crisis.

During his visit to Kiev to make the one-year anniversary of the start of the Maidan revolution, the American Vice President announced additional aid for the Ukranian government but no arms.

In Washington, the director of the U.S. State Department press office Jeff Rathke says, the recurring issue is Moscow's intransigence when it comes to Ukraine.

More Ferguson arrests as tension mounts over Michael Brown Shooting verdict

The father of a black teenager shot and killed by a police officer in Ferguson in August has called for calm ahead of an expected grand jury decision.

Michael Brown's death in the St. Louis suburb triggered days of protests and clashes between demonstrators and police. 

A grand jury has been examining whether Officer Darren Wilson should be charged for killing the unarmed  teen.  

Missouri's governor has brought in the state's National Guard to help with law enforcement if violence breaks out after the grand jury's decision.

Michael Brown's father appeals for calm in Ferguson

The father of an unarmed man shot by police in a St. Louis suburb is appealing for calm, amid fears that rioting could take place there this weekend.


A Grand Jury is due to decide whether the police officer who killed Michael Brown should face prosecution.

House Republicans sue President Obama

Congressional Republicans have filed a lawsuit against U.S. President Barack Obama over his signature health care legislation - the Affordable Care Act, nicknamed Obama care.

The move comes as Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives John Boehner has denounced the President's executive orders on immigration as the product of a monarch.

Massive protests across Mexico


Thousands of demonstrators took the streets of across Mexico,  demanding the truth about the disappearance of the 43 college students.

The US secretary of Sate remains in Vienna for crucial talks on Iran's controversial nuclear program.

Iran says its nuclear ambitions are solely for energy purposes.  The U.S., Israel and other nations believe Tehran is working to develop nuclear weapons.

Republicans reject Pres. Obama's immigration reform proposals

The Republican leadership of the U.S. Congress have flatly rejected U.S. President Barack Obama's proposals to enact some immigration reform.

The American president is signing a series of executive actions to prevent about 5 of the 11 million people living in the U.S. illegally from being deported.

UK army deployed to Eastern Europe


The British army is taking part in Nato exercises in Eastern Europe, which the UK's Ministry of Defence is calling a show of support. 


The armoured deployment is the largest in six years and comes as Russia calls for a guarantee that Ukraine will not join the Nato military alliance.

Hungary PM 'won't choose sides on Russia'

The Hungarian Prime Minister has reignited European Union concerns by reasserting Budapest will choose its own route in relations with Russia.

Andy Coulson released from prison

The former editor of the now defunct British newspaper The News of The World has been released from prison, after serving a sentence for conspiracy to hack phones.


Andy Coulson was sentenced to 18 months in July of which he has served almost 5 months.

Russia: North Korea ready for nuclear talks

Russia has announced that North Korea is ready to resume talks on its nuclear program.


That's just after fresh threats from North Korea this week to conduct a new underground nuclear test. 


That was in response to the UN's recent adoption of a resolution urging the country's leadership to be referred to the international criminal court.
