OBESITY COST TO WORLD 'AS GREAT AS ARMED CONFLICT'

Obesity costs the world as much as smoking or armed conflict, according to a new study.

The research by The Mckinsey Global Institute calculates the worldwide cost of obesity at £1.3tn ($2bn) annually, which is higher than alcoholism and climate change.

It says 2.1 billion people are overweight or obese - which is 30% of the world's population.

The report authors suggest ambitious policies that rely less on an individual's responsibility for their own weight.

They want portion control introduced to packaged food, action on fast food and processed food, and workplace fitness schemes.

Tam Fry from the National Obesity Forum in the UK says getting on top of obesity is easier said than done.

North Korean envoy in Moscow as Russia further isolated from West

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un's special envoy is in Moscow for meetings with the Russian President and other senior officials.

The visit comes as Russia faces growing isolation from the West.

Russian President Vladimir Putin announced this week that relations between Russia and North Korea are becoming closer.

Russian site hacks thousands of video streams from inside UK and global homes

The public in the United Kingdom is being warned about a Russian based website featuring the hacked video feeds of thousands of private baby monitors, webcams and CCTV systems.


Data watchdogs across the world have warned about the site which hacks into camera systems with weak passwords.

Motown singer Jimmy Ruffin dies aged 78.

Motown singer Jimmy Ruffin has died.

He passed away in hospital in Las Vegas aged 78.

So far, the cause of death is unknown.

Uber investigates top exec for tracking journalist

The fast-growing ride-sharing service Uber is investigating a top executive for tracking a reporter in violation of its privacy policy.

The investigation comes on the heels of the company's senior vice president of business reportedly suggesting Uber should hire a team to dig into personal information on journalists and critics.

US condemns Irbil suicide attack

The Obama administration has issued a strong condemnation of the terrorist attacks in Iraq, including the car bomb in Irbil which killed at least six.

The U.S. military has conducted 24 airstrikes in Iraq in the past 48 hours, and another 6 against IS militant positions in Syria and one against the Khorasan Group.

Jeff Rathke, the director of the U.S. State Department's Press Office, issued a standard condemnation of the attack and added, the Iraqi people are fighting back.

Millions Pledged For Ebola Drug Trial As World Bank Downgrades Economic Impact Forecast
