Britain to build supercomputer for weather forecasting


Britain is well known for it's unpredictable weather, but now funding has been confirmed for a supercomputer to help the UK's Met Office with weather forecasting and climate modelling.

The computer will cost 97 million pounds (157 dollars) and will be built in 2015.

France and Italy avoid confrontation with European Commission over budget deficits

France and Italy have presented plans to reduce budget deficits following pressure from the European Union.

Both countries warn further cuts could put them back into recession but will introduce the measure to avoid a direct confrontation with the European Commission.

Russia to recognize rebel Ukraine elections

Russia's Foreign Minister says that Russia will recognize the results of upcoming separatist elections in Eastern Ukraine.


Kiev had been calling on Russia to dissuade pro-Russian rebels in Donetsk and Lugansk regions from holding their own elections this weekend.

Investigation started into UK PM security

UK's Lloyds to cut 9000 jobs

Britain's Lloyds Banking Group has announced it is cutting 9-thousand jobs and closing 150 high-street banks in the UK...

The latest cost cutting measures come as the group sets aside another 1.4 billion dollars to cover possible payouts for the PPI insurance scandal, while fines for the Libor rate-rigging scandal have now topped 322 million dollars.

US CDC issues new Ebola guidelines

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control has issued fresh guidelines on quarantine for folks who may have been exposed to or cared for Ebola patients.

The new guidelines come as some states impose strict quarantine rules for people travelling from West Africa.

CDC to release fresh Ebola guidelines

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control is set to release fresh guidelines on Ebola, especially for health workers returning from treating people in West Africa.

A nurse has criticized the state of New Jersey for putting her in quarantine in a tent in a hospital parking lot, based solely on her status as a returning health worker.

She has now been released to return to her home in Maine.

White House spokesman Josh Earnest confirmed to reporters that the CDC has prepared new guidelines on Ebola and health care workers.

Cameron: UK Government will "crawl through" EU bill demand

The British Prime Minister David Cameron has again insisted the UK will not pay a 2.7 billion dollar bill demanded by the European Union...

During the first Prime Minister's Questions since the demand emerged last week, Mr Cameron told MPs he will fight it "in every way possible".

The amount is based on EU calculations on how well member state economies have fared since 1995. 

Mr Cameron said the government will "crawl through" calculation in exhaustive detail and he defended the government's record on reforming Britain's relationship with the EU...

Nurse could sue over Ebola quarantine

A nurse returning to the United States from West Africa could seek
legal action this week after she was placed in mandatory quarantine.

This would be the first legal challenge made since three US states
enforced a 21-day quarantine period for at-risk travelers coming from
Ebola-stricken nations.

Second student dies following Washington State school shooting

A second student has died from her injuries after one of her classmates opened fire in the cafeteria of Marysville-Pilchuck High School north of Seattle.

Last week, Jaylen Fryberg shot five students - one of whom died at the scene - before turning the gun on himself.

Last UK troops leave Helmand in Afghanistan



The last British troops have now left Afghanistan's Helmand province, after the main base Camp Bastion was handed over to Afghan control on Sunday. 


The end of the UK's combat role comes as poll in the UK showed that 68% of the British public thought the military campaign was not "worthwhile."

One in five European banks fail EU stress-tests

Stress tests on European Union banks have found that one in five banks would be in trouble if another financial crisis were to hit. 
 
Results from the tests by the European Central Bank revealed that 24 banks were collectively short of a 25 billion euro safety net.

REWARD OFFERED AFTER MURDER OF SOUTH AFRICAN FOOTBALL CAPTAIN

A reward is being offered in South Africa for information leading to the arrest of suspects in the fatal shooting of the country's football captain.

Goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa was reportedly attacked when men broke into his girlfriend's house south of Johannesburg.

Local media says one of the men demanded Meyiwa's mobile phone.

He was 27 years old and had played for his club Orlando Pirates on Saturday.

US Ambassador to UN: Ebola crisis is "staggering"

The US ambassador to the UN says a greater response is needed to combat the the Ebola outbreak in West Africa, on a visit to the region.

After spending a day in Guinea, Samantha Power posted on Twitter that the "scale of need is staggering" and that the "most basic resources will help save lives", 

As the death toll from the outbreak approaches 5000, Ms Power promised the support of the United States.
