US Secret Service Director resigns

Julia Pierson, the director of the US Secret Service has resigned after multiple lapses in the president's security were revealed.

Meanwhile the man accused of jumping the White House fence has pleaded not guilty to charges that he ran into the presidential mansion while carrying a knife.

More deaths reported in Donetsk in eastern Ukraine

More money for ex-East German prisoners

A further disclosure of a lapse in presidential security by the US Secret Service has emerged, AFTER the service's director gave three hours of testimony to a House Committee.

Julia Pierson failed to mention an incident where an armed security contractor with three convictions for assault and battery rode in an elevator with President Barack Obama last month.

UK PM delivers key note speech



Britain's Prime Minister David Cameron has delivered his key note address in his last Party Conference speech before the General Elections scheduled for 2015.


Mr Cameron outlined some popular policies if his party win the next election,  including raising the tax-free allowance and making improvements to the state-run National Health Service.

CAMERON PLEDGES TAX CUTS, MOCKS MILIBAND

UK Prime Minister David Cameron has pledged tax cuts for millions of Britons if his Conservative Party wins next year's election.

He's also promised his party's final annual conference before the election that Britain's deficit will continue to come down.

Mr Cameron's speech in Birmingham follows that of Labour leader Ed Miliband last week in which the Conservatives' austerity measures were criticised.

Polls currently suggest a close race between the Conservatives and Labour next May.

British jets destroy IS targets in Iraq

Britain's Ministry of Defence has confirmed Royal Air Force jets fired four missiles destroying Islamic State vehicles in Iraq, the second time missiles have been deployed by British jets.

EU keeps Russia sanctions in place

The EU is keeping sanctions on Russian state officials and companies in place, judging that a peace deal in eastern Ukraine has not been fully effective.


An EU spokeswoman noted that part of peace deal between Ukraine's government and militants it sees as Russian backed, "will need to be properly implemented."
