UK PARLIAMENT 'TO BE RECALLED OVER I.S.'

The UK's Parliament will reportedly be recalled on Friday to discuss Britain's role in military action against Islamic State militants.

A formal request is expected from Iraq's Prime Minister for the UK to join in air strikes on IS positions.

This as the US Pentagon says the fight against the Islamic State might take 'years'.

President Barack Obama has thanked Arab states for their support in air strikes inside Syria.

Lord David Hannay, ambassador to the UN at the time of the first Gulf War, says this is not the start of co-operation with the Syrian government of Bashar al Assad.

US warns more than 1 million Ebola cases by next year

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control is warning, its worst case estimate is West Africa could see more than 1.4 million cases of Ebola by the start of next year.

The World Health Organization reports, so far there have been 5,843 cases with  2,803 deaths.

Sierra Leone closes borders due to Ebola outbreak

Health workers battling the ebola virus in West Africa say rural communities are refusing aid teams access to treat sick people. 

 The World Health Organisation and the US Center for Disease Control have warned that the number of people infected with the virus could pass 1 million as early as December. 

 More than 2800 people have so far died of the disease in West Africa. Meanwhile, Sierra Leone has sealed off all borders with Liberia and Guinea.

Bin Laden son-in-law sentenced to life

Osama Bin Laden's son-in-law has been sentenced to life in prison by a judge in the United States.

Sulaiman Abu Ghaith (pron: soo-LAY-man ah-BOO GAY-th) - a spokesman for Al Qaeda - had been convicted back in March of conspiring to kill Americans and other terrorism-related offences.

German-American journalist released from captivity in Somalia

German-American journalist,l Michael Scott Moore, held hostage for two and a half years in Somalia, has been freed.

He had been researching a book on piracy at the time of his abduction, and had worked for Germany's Spiegel Online among other media outlets.

Google cuts ties with climate change opposers

Obama hails Arab government support in US-led strikes on Syria

At least 70 Islamic State militants, and 50 fighters with another group linked to Al Qaeda were reportedly killed in the first round of US-led air strikes on Syria.


President Obama says he's "proud" that US forces went into battle "shoulder to shoulder" with their counterparts from 5 Arab nations.


And the US says some militants were targeted because they were plotting a terror strike against international aviation.

CAMERON: QUEEN 'PURRED' OVER SCOTS VOTE

US Central Command coordinates airstrikes against Syria

U.S. President Barack Obama confirmed, he ordered U.S. Central Command to coordinate more than 20 airstrikes against positions in Syria.

The targets included command and control positions for both the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant and separately, the al-Qaeda tied terrorist group Khorasan.

Lieut. General William Mayville is the director of operations for the U.S. military's Joint Chiefs of Staff.

Miliband promises to build a world class Britain if elected

The head of the UK's opposition Labour party, Ed Miliband, has laid out a 10-year plan which he says will build a "world class Britain."

Speaking at the last Labour party conference before next year's general election Mr Miliband said millions of people had lost faith in the future...reflecting the fact that 45 per cent of Scottish voters wanted to break away from the United Kingdom. 

 Mr Miliband said Labour's task would be "to restore people faith in the future" by bringing the country together.  He has pledged to revive spending on Britain's National Health Service and increase the UK's green economy and the number of apprenticeships for young people. 

Mr Miliband said the question that Scotland people asked themselves as they went to the polls in the referendum vote, echoes across the country.

Pres. Obama confirms Syria attacks

U.S. President Barack Obama has confirmed the U.S. military conducted a series of strikes against Islamic State targets and also the emerging Khorasan group in Syria.

U.S. President Barack Obama has confirmed, the battlefield against the self-styled Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant has expanded to Syria, with Bahrain, Jordan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates providing support and participating.

Separately, the U.S. military also targeted Khorasan, a group with deep ties to Al Qaeda and suspected of plotting attacks against the United States from bases inside Syria.

UK former TV and Radio Personality guilty of indecent assault

A former TV personality in the UK has been found guilty of one count of indecent assault.


69 year old Dave Lee Travis was retried on two counts after the jury was unable to reach a verdict in a previous trial which took place in February.

Russia warns US airstrikes on IS may not conform to international law

Russia is warning US and Western airstrikes on Islamic State militants need approval from the Syrian government and UN or they will only exacerbate tensions in the area.

At a meeting of Russia's security council in Moscow, the permanent members discussed whether Russia should join with international partners to tackle the Islamic State

Kerry calls on North Korea to close prison camps

America's top diplomat has called for North Korea to shut down prison camps which he said were riddled with barbarity and inhumanity. 

Speaking at an event on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, US Secretary of State John Kerry called for the closure of such penal camps.

A UN commission of inquiry into North Korea's human rights record detailed a wide range of systemic abuses including murder, enslavement and torture at these camps.

The commission's report which was published in February said  many of the violations constituted crimes against humanity and suggested they could be placed before the International Criminal Court.

The secretive communist state is estimated to have between 80 to 120 thousand  political prisoners in its sprawling prison system.

Secretary Kerry said it was time for North Korea to close such camps.

UN urges action on climate change

The UN Secretary-General has told world leaders that now is time for action on climate change.

At the Climate Summit in New York Ban Ki-moon urged all countries to work on a clear vision to make the planet carbon neutral by the end of the century.

It's hoped the meeting will help gather momentum ahead of the signing of a comprehensive climate agreement at talks in Paris next year.

The Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said billions of people were at risk.
