Opinion Polls for Scottish Independence Neck and Neck

With just two weeks to go before voters in Scotland go to the polls to
decide on whether to leave the United Kingdom and become an
independent country, opinion polls show both sides are neck and neck.

Scotland has been part of Britain for over three hundred years,
although that could all change on September 18th.

US confirms airstrikes at Haditha dam

The U-S military confirms the Iraqi military remains in control of the Haditha dam - following a series of airstrikes intended to protect the dam from Islamic State militants.

Top Obama administration officials are meeting with possible allies to forge an alliance to eventually destroy the emerging caliphate of the Islamic State.

Ebola forces lockdown in West Africa

INTRO: Some governments in West Africa have agreed to more extreme measures to contain the spread of the ebola virus. In Liberia the military is enforcing quarantined areas around the capital Monrovia. Now, the authorities in Sierra Leone have ordered citizens to stay home for three days. Obama To Share New ISIS Strategy

President Obama will make a speech Wednesday to share his game plan to
defeat Islamic State Militants. The speech will come just one day
before the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks on America, when al-Qaeda
militants flew hijacked airplanes into the Pentagon and World Trade
Center.

Speaking to America's NBC News, the president said there is no
immediate threat to homeland security, but warned that international
action needs to be taken immediately to stop the terrorist group from
advancing.

Meanwhile, pro-government fighters in Iraq say a new series of US
airstrikes early Sunday took out a group of ISIS terrorists who tried
to attack the Haditha Dam, a key hydroelectric facility that provides
water to millions in the region. If compromised, the dam could cause
mass destruction through flooding.

Endangered California blue whale population recovers from whaling

The endangered California blue whale population looks to have recovered from the ravages of whaling.

Despite collisions with ships, a new study suggests numbers off the U.S. West Coast have stabilized, globally the only blue whale population to do so.

Apple beefs up iCloud security after celebrity nude photo leak

Apple's Chief Executive Tim Cook says the company's planning to add additional security measures to its iCloud service.

The move follows the leaking of hundreds of nude photos of some of Hollywood's best-known female stars, including the Oscar winner, Jennifer Lawrence.

US: Al Shabab Leader Killed in Air Strike

The Pentagon has announced that the leader of the Somali Islamist terror group Al Shabab was killed in a US military airstrike on Monday.

Ahmed Abdi Godane [PRON: God-ar-nee] was one of the US State Department's most wanted men, and had a 7 million dollar bounty on his head.

US Announces Coalition to Fight Islamic State

The United States has announced the formation of a coalition of countries willing to work to combat the growing influence of the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria.

A group of nations met on the sidelines of the NATO summit, including Britain, France, Australia, Canada, Germany, Turkey, Italy, Poland and Denmark.

US Secretary of State John Kerry will also seek support from Middle Eastern nations.

US President Barack Obama indicated that US forces would continue to carry out air strikes and that the involved nations would support local forces on the ground.

Those forces would include Iraqi army, Kurdish Peshmerga fighters and members of the Syrian opposition deemed to be moderate.

NATO ANNOUNCES RESPONSE FORCE AS UKRAINE ANNOUNCES CEASEFIRE

NATO has announced plans for a new 4000-strong rapid reaction force, in response to Russian actions in Ukraine.

NATO to help Iraq deal with ISIL

British Prime Minister says NATO will train and equip Iraqi forces to help them fight Islamic State militants operating in northern Iraq and Syria.

Closing the NATO summit in Newport, Wales, Mr Cameron said the NATO alliance was united in its determination to help Iraq fight the threat from the group which has taken large swathes of the two countries in a violent campaign.

Mr Cameron said NATO members have agreed they will not be sending troops to the conflict but will try to help equip Iraq to deal with the problem themselves.

Kiev and pro-Russian rebels agree on ceasefire

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko announced Kiev and the pro-Russian rebels agreed on a casefire coming into effect on Friday afternoon. The rebel leaders confirmed they are ready to implement the agreement but said the self-proclaimed Republics of Donetsk and Luhansk will not change their course and will seek further independence from Ukraine.

Poroshenko confirms ceasefire at NATO meeting

Ukraine's President Petro Poroshenko says the Ukrainian government and pro-Russia rebels have signed a ceasefire deal, based on his peace plan for eastern Ukraine, following talks in Minsk.

The Ukrainian leader made the announcement at the NATO summit in Wales, where western leaders had been discussing further sanctions against Russia in case the peace talks collapsed.

The ceasefire is due to come into effect shortly.... bringing an end to hostilities that have killed over 2 and a half thousand people.

The Ukrainian president welcomed the agreement.
