Western leaders have criticised Russia for its "destabilising" influence on the crisis in eastern Ukraine, at the opening of the NATO summit in Newport, Wales.

British Prime Minister David Cameron said Russian troops were in Ukraine illegally.

World leaders said pressure on Russia would be increased if it did not change course. Russia denies claims that it arms rebels and has troops in Ukraine and in recent days Russian President Vladimir Putin has been talking about ceasefire conditions.

David Cameron said the summit must address many challenges including the threat from the Islamic State terrorist group in Northern Iraq.

Western leaders have accused Russia of "destabilizing" eastern Ukraine.

Meeting at the NATO Summit in Wales, they said they plan to increase pressure on Russia unless it backs down.

Problems with IV Line Affected Oklahoma Execution

A report released by the Department of Public Safety for the US State of Oklahoma has found that a botched execution there back in April was down to an improperly monitored intravenous line.

The review says the failure to monitor the line correctly probably caused problems in administering the three lethal injection drugs.

NATO head says mission in Afghanistan completed

NATO Secretary-General Anders Fogh Rasmussen has paid tribute to all the forces that fought in Afghanistan, that the start of the NATO summit in Wales.

Western leaders will meet with Afghan Defence Minister Bismillah Khan Mohammadi to discuss how to stabilise the nation,as NATO forces are scheduled to leave as year's end

Ukrainian President ready to declare cease-fire Friday

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has said he will be ready to declare a cease-fire on Friday, as long as the peace talks with pro-Russian rebels scheduled to take place in Minsk on Friday go as planned. Separatist leaders in Eastern Ukraine have confirmed that they are prepared to halt fire the same day.

ECB slashes rates to help struggling eurozone

The European Central Bank has cut its benchmark interest rate in an effort to battle weak growth and dropping inflation in the eurozone.

The ECB cut its key refinancing rate to 0.05%, a record low for the single currency's 15 year old central bank.

It also cut its deposit rate to negative 0.2 percent - which is meant to incentivise banks to lend instead of save.

After the central bank's governing council meeting, President Mario Draghi also revealed the ECB will begin buying asset-backed securities - or bundles of loans issued by banks to businesses and households - as early as October.

UK Prime Minister says Islamic extremists will face justice

British Prime Minster David Cameron says the Islamic extremists that beheaded two American journalists will face justice one way or another.

The British leader said he was certain the man responsible for the killing, dubbed Jihadi John, a suspected British national, will be caught.

He added that all is being done to help the British hostage being held by the Islamic State group.

Murdered journalist's family speaks publicly

The family of murdered American journalist Steven Sotloff, have spoken publicly following the release of a video by militants showing his beheading.

They said he was"no hero" but dedicated his life to reporting the suffering of people in conflict zones.
