NATO MEETS AMID UKRAINE ESCALATION

NATO is holding an emergency meeting (on Friday) to discuss the crisis in Ukraine, amid claims Russia has invaded.

The military alliance says over 1000 Russian troops are fighting with pro-Russian separatists inside Ukraine.

Moscow denies this and accuses Ukraine of attacking its own people.

Rebels have seized the south-eastern coastal town of Novoazovsk as fears grow Russia wants to create a corridor to Crimea, which it annexed in March.

Reporter Harriet Salem is in eastern Ukraine and says Ukrainian forces insist they are battling Russian troops.

Pres. Obama's press conference leaves more questions than answers

U.S. President Barack Obama adressed top foreign policy concerns including Iraq, Syria and Ukraine, but he did not say what his strategy is to address these crises.

The Obama administration has faced increasing criticism that the U.S. has stepped too far back and is not engaged in the world.

U.S. President Obama told reporters in the White House briefing room that there is no strategy yet on defeating the Islamic State militants.

He was trying to make a broader point that consultations are continuing and a broader strategy is needed, not just airstrikes in Iraq, and possibly across the border in Syria.

President Obama said he wants to make sure all concerns are addressed before announcing next steps.

Russia has violated Ukraine's sovereignty - Pres. Obama

U.S. President Barack Obama says Russia has clearly violated Ukraine's sovereignty, but refrained from saying Russian President Vladimir Putin has invaded his neighboring country.

NATO intelligence points to at least 1,000 Russian soldiers operating inside Ukraine with reports, the Russian military captured the town of  of Novoazovsk on the Sea of Azov.

ISIS hostages including James Foley waterboarded

A group of Islamic State militant hostages, including recently killed journalist James Foley, were waterboarded, according to anonymous Washington Post sources.

The torture was apparently modeled after techniques the CIA used on suspects in the aftermath of 9/11.

Russian forces capture Ukrainian town

The Ukrainian military says Russian forces have captured the town of Novoazovsk on the Sea of Azov, as NATO confirms, at least 1,000 Russian soldiers are operating on the Ukrainian side of the border.

Earlier, British Prime Minister David Cameron said that Russian President Vladimir Putin is not credible when he says he wants a diplomatic solution to the Ukraine crisis, while at the same time, evidence is mounting that the Russian military is inside Ukraine.

At the U.S. State Department, spokesperson Jen Psaki said Moscow is escalating the situation.

African ambassador in U.S. suspected of beating daughter

The Ambassador from Equatorial Guinea to the United States has been questioned by local police after his daughter was taken to a hospital in the Washington DC area after it was reported, a man was beating her.

Alledgedly, the teenage girl was beaten with a chair leg and suffered a significant laceration to the face. The ambassador is citing diplomatic immunity.

Confirming that the U.S. State Department is fully cooperating, spokesperson Jen Psaki explained that if criminal charges are confirmed, the ambassador could be asked to leave the United States.

At least 250 Syrian soldiers killed by the Islamic State

Islamic State militants have apparently killed 250 Syrian soldiers following the capture of the airbase at Tabqa.

According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, some 700 Syrians were able to escape, but social media shows the captured being marched into the desert and summarily shot.

At the U.S. State Department, spokesperson Jen Psaki said the U.S. is continuing to consult with allies on how to stop the organization once known as the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant.

Joan Rivers stops breathing during operation

According to initial reports from TMZ comedian Joan Rivers stopped
breathing whilst having throat surgery in a New York clinic.

The 81-year-old has been rushed to a nearby hospital in manhattan
where she's believed to be in critical condition.

The comedian Joan Rivers is in critical condition in a New York hospital after she reportedly stopped breathing during throat surgery.

Brisk growth for US economy

America's economy has rebounded more strongly than first believed in the second quarter, according to the US Commerce Department.

Gross domestic product – the broadest measure of the economy's health – grew at 4.2% for the second quarter, topping initial estimates and beating forecasts.

Ebola could infect 20,000, WHO warn

In a latest warning from the World Health Organization the Ebola virus
could infect 20,000 people before it's contained.

NATO estimates over 1,000 Russian troops are operating in Ukraine


A NATO military officer says it's estimated over 1,000 Russian troops are now operating in Ukraine. 

Pro-russian forces have taken another key town in Eastern Ukraine, but Russia denies that its forces are crossing over the boarder.

Ukraine's President Petro Poroshenko has cancelled a visit to Turkey in order to address the situation has says he wants to initiate an emergency session of the United Nations Security Council to discuss the crisis.

Bob Stewart is an MP and member of Britain's Defence Committee, he says without putting boots ground, there's very little anyone can do.
